Incentives
Texas prides itself in having diverse locations to film anything from a big city scene at a high rise, to an old school western in a ghost town. With 25 metropolitan areas in the state, there are ample crew bases available for help and hire no matter where filming is needed.
The state of Texas provides a tax exemption up-front on rented and/or purchased items that are used in production.
Texas also offers an exclusive production incentive in which qualifying movies, TV shows, videos games, and commercials will receive 5% of their spending in-state. Texas recognizes filmmakers as manufacturers, thus you may claim tax exemptions on purchases made in producing the film.
Also, any production crew staying in a hotel for over 30 days is eligible for a refund on the 6% state occupancy tax. In addition to these incentives, refunds may be received for fuel tax paid in the use of off-road vehicles during the filming of the production.
