Director Martin Scorsese asked if someone would double-check the envelope when he won his first Oscar for Best Director. Winning as Oscar has been a tradition that film industry professionals have enjoyed for 80 years, and Scorsese’s witty tone is a reminder of the casual lifestyle of a Hollywood star.

This February, The Academy will host its 81st annual award ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The first Academy Awards ever was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in 1929.
