In 1979 Massachusetts became one of the first states to establish a film office, and from that time they have had over 80 major motion pictures filmed in the Commonwealth.

Over 60 movies filmed in Massachusetts have been nominated for Academy Awards. It’s well-known correlation with colonial America and the formation of our country is captured in small picturesque towns.

Massachusetts has developed into one of the most well rounded places in the world to film. The state offers a 25% tax credit for spending within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The most distinguishable incentive that Massachusetts has to offer is the opportunity for filmmakers to take their credit as either a rebate or to sell it at market value – they are the only state that does this.

Massachusetts was selected as the 2nd best place to shoot a movie by Production Guide Magazine.
