Property Description
This magnificent Julia Morgan estate has been our family home since 1973.
The generously appointed three bedroom, three bath home and separate cottage with secluded upper garden and shared lower garden on two hillside acres was described by Morgan's biographer, Sara Boutelle, as the Berkeley architect's hidden masterpiece.
Once you see the property you will understand exactly what Boutelle meant.
The stunning views framed by oaks and giant redwoods of downtown San Francisco, the Golden Gate bridge and southern Marin County from the vantage point of the veranda of the finest estate on historic Panoramic Hill (known for its walking paths minutes to UC and hilltop trails) is surpassed only by the quiet charm of the solidly built home with its fascinating nooks and crannies.
The house was built in typical Morgan style, with generous sized redwood beamed rooms and large, solid windows allowing a magnificent light to fill the well appointed space. Outside, Morgan's design included sturdy trellises overhung with scented wisteria to complete the sense of space, with cobbled walkways, rock gardens, giant redwoods and ponds as part of the estate.
Wild turkeys, deer, foxes and birds (including humming birds, finches, warblers, red-tailed hawks soaring above and the wild band tailed pigeon) share the property, and yet you are only minutes away from the University as well as shops, restaurants, and entertainment. An adjoining cottage, with magnificent living area and redwood deck overlooking a hillside stream and under a giant redwood, is also available.
The owners have preserved the integrity of Morgan's design by keeping the original butcher block counters and cabinets in the kitchen, as well as the spacious pantry. The kitchen has been updated with new appliances and the home was recently redecorated. More Photos can be viewed at http://picasaweb.google.com/milltom/LaFleurMilleramaPhotos#
