From Haunted House to Comedy to Drama, Suspense to Romance, the 1856 Washington Rural School offers a variety of filming opportunities. Go tohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmUZ9ppLaPE and also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqKGv_z8SkA to see a REAL GHOST captured in the house by The Ohio Paranormal Society. Then go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv-0dvOJUkI to view the awesome area of the Appalachian, Muskingum County. On 1/2 acre with a lush forest as a back drop, the 3000 sq.ft. house is one of the original five schools built in the mid 1800's in Zanesville, Ohio.
Across the lane is a chapel, the original YMCA, also built in 1856, just 4 years before the Civil War and 4 years after the last of the Wyandot Indians left the area. Just minutes away from the huge Riverside Park on the Muskingum River, close to Blue Rock and Dillon State Parks, Flintridge, Black Hand Gorge and an assortment of natural wonders, Burr Oak, Old Man's cave, where deer and black bear and wildlife are everywhere, even sea gulls on the beaches.
Zanesville was the original capital of Ohio for a couple years. It's history includes the abolitionist movement, Underground Railroad homes, the Rim of the World country roads with waves of hills for views, almost as high as the Ozarks. Zane Grey originated here, and 10 miles up the old National Road, John Glenn grew up in New Concord.
Songs have been written about the true love story legends about the Lorena ferry/steam boat, still carrying tourists up and down the river, midst lush green and hills filled with Evergreens.
The country roads, down the 555 or 78 or river roads like the 666 or 60 South to Marietta, with ferry boats and undeveloped beauty make this a perfect place for chase scenes or romance.
The old school house turned into a residence in the 20's. Original deeds have been traced more than 150 years to the School Board's original ownership.
The cellar in the basement with a coal bin and with dirt remaining, plus the old garage and the older character of the house -- make multiple episodes and scenes possible.
Plus, it is sitting on a 1/2 acre, most land in the back, with city-owned forest in the back. The house was newly purchased in March, 2008, by a former Classical Pianist and Public Relations Manager & Marketing Consultant, 0who moved back home to her love for the heeels after living for years on the West Coast. She and her Collies like to travel so it's a perfect opportunity for the film industry to utilize her historic house and to stay over too!
However, the Collies are highly intelligent, if there is a need for them. THEY LOVE TO GET THEIR PHOTO TAKEN! The owner herself was lead in her Senior Class Play in a large high school and member of the Thespian Society. She was an Extra in the Hero, and now is 58, so an old role would suit her now.
Her Farm Collies know more than 200 words, including names of 17 animals. Also, they can learn words fast. They can bow and shake and tell you what to do!
"There's a birdie, there's a deer..." and there they go! "Do you want a Greenie bone?" you might ask them, and they will answer yes! This 150-year history of this house make it perfect for a rainbow of film opportunities, plus it is located in the Appalachian Counties. You can take a drive to the internationally acclaimed Fur Peace Ranch and enjoy the wilderness and the secret beauty of this area -- idyllic villages like Lynden and New Concord, farm towns like Adamsville, or old town looks, like downtown Main Street in Zanesville, once the pottery capital of the US. Plus, the country roads twirl right and left, up and down, high and low, with a variety of hill shapes stretching all the way to the Appalachian Mountains, only 1 hour to West VA or PA.
The owner has updated wiring, plumbing, furnace, A/C, insulation, on and on, so the house is ready for the film industry to arrive with their creative juices!
