Where to stay
The Blackthorne Inn.
On a hillside perch, the rambling wooden inn is like sleeping in the treetops Sunset, August 2005
Blackthorne Inn bed and breakfast is nestled in a wooded canyon near the charming village of Inverness, California an hour from San Francisco and the Napa-Sonoma wine country. The Blackthorne Inn bed and breakfast provides intimate overnight accommodations in a beautiful rustic setting adjacent to the magnificent Point Reyes National Seashore wilderness park in northern California.
This unique structure resembles a giant elegant treehouse. Crafted from redwood, cedar and a 180-foot Douglas fir cut and milled on the site, the Blackthorne Inn bed and breakfast rises through fragrant bay trees to sunny decks on four levels. A generous buffet style breakfast is provided each morning. Guests may dine privately or together on the 3,500 square foot deck which surrounds the main level, or inside in the glass solarium whose walls were once doors in the old San Francisco railroad depot. The adjoining living room houses a great stone hearth, and is comfortably furnished for fireside evenings with a good book or music and friends.
The Eagles Nest -This tower room with full size bed affords its guests a spectacular view of sky and trees. For those who enjoy being greeted by the dawn, or the moon and the stars, the Eagle's Nest is "magical" according to Simon and Schuster. A private bath is located in a separate building across the skybridge. Also located on the third level is the Overlook; a light airy room with a queen size bed, stained glass windows, and two small balconies; one that overlooks the main deck high in the tree tops, the other overlooks the main living room. Overlook guests may open the living room balcony door and enjoy the warmth from the fire below. A private bath is located across the hall. On the third level is the Lupine Room, a cozy garretted room with a queen size bed, private entrance down to the main level. A private bath ensuite. The Forest View on the first level is our most spacious guest room with private entrance, a queen size four poster bed, CD player, and separate sitting room. One wall is glass, and opens to a private redwood deck. A private bath is located just across the hall. $195 - $250*
***For a foursome traveling together, the Forest View may be combined with the Hideaway to encompass the entire first level of the Blackthorne Inn and create a spacious two room suite with private bath for an additional $125. The Hideaway has a private entrance, patio, twin beds, and guest refrigerator.
The hot tub is just right for relaxing after a day of horseback riding or hiking at the nearby Point Reyes National Seashore. Numerous trails take the visitor through some of the most diverse settings that nature can provide: long stretches of beaches dotted with tide pools, lagoons, and bird sanctuaries; rolling hillside pastures and densely wooded forests. By season, wildflowers, whale watching, and fresh seafood catch are readily available. Our guests can choose to dine at any number of the exceptional restaurants in the immediate area.
